A Name That Carries Something
There is a reason the band at J.J. Pearce High School is not simply the Pearce band. It is the Mighty Mustang Band, and titles like that are not assigned by anyone. They accumulate.
A program earns a name like that over years of students who did the work when it was tedious, directors who held a standard nobody made them hold, and parents who kept the entire operation moving in the background. Every freshman who picks up an instrument in August inherits all of it, usually long before understanding what they have been handed.
Bezit is a proud sponsor of the Mighty Mustang Band for the 2026-27 season. We are glad to put our name next to one that already means something in Richardson.
Public School Arts, Assessed Honestly
Music programs hold an odd position in public education. Nearly everyone agrees they matter. Almost nobody can point to the single line item that guarantees they survive a hard budget year.
A competitive marching band is not cheap to run. It requires:
- Long-term equipment: Instruments built to outlast a decade of student use and daily transport.
- Uniforms & fittings: Tailoring and care for garments that change hands every single season.
- Logistics & staffing: Transportation for regional events, custom drill arrangements, and specialized instruction for sectionals.
- Unbudgeted operational needs: The hundreds of unexpected maintenance needs that surface between August camp and November finals.
Districts like Richardson ISD fund a portion. Families fund a portion. In every program that stays strong for a long stretch, another portion comes from the surrounding community deciding, repeatedly, that it is worth paying for.
Sponsorship is that decision made in public, in dollars, rather than in a vague comment about how important the arts are.
What Students Take With Them
Directors tend to describe their programs in terms of people rather than performances. After enough of those conversations, the reason becomes obvious. A student in a serious band learns to:
- Master deliberate practice: Practicing something they are bad at until they are no longer bad at it - a habit many adults never acquire.
- Distinguish attendance from readiness: Understanding the difference between simply showing up and being prepared to perform.
- Treat feedback as data: Absorbing a public correction in front of forty peers and treating it as constructive information rather than an insult.
- Practice silent accountability: Trusting that a group can be better than the sum of its parts, but only when everyone executes their role when nobody is checking.
Very little of that is left behind at graduation. Most of these students will never march again after their senior year. Nearly all of them will keep the habits and apply them in professional environments that have nothing to do with music.
Why Bezit Is Involved
We work with homeowners throughout the DFW metroplex, Richardson included, so this is not an unfamiliar community for us. The families sitting in those stands are the exact same property owners we talk to every year about lower assessment values and property tax appeals.
Supporting a program that shapes its students this directly was an easy call. Local businesses are frequently asked what they are giving back to the places that support them. This is one straightforward answer: putting dollars directly into a public school arts program in the district where our customers live, for a season that will run whether or not anyone helps pay for it.

The Mighty Mustang Band takes the field on Saturday, August 15. If you are anywhere near Richardson, it is well worth your morning.
